You are responsible for overseeing the development of psychological interventions to enhance the cognitive and psychological performance of sailors and crews within the Navy. On this, you design and implement research to identify performance barriers specific to the Naval context and validate the effectiveness of possible interventions. Based on the research findings, you work with relevant stakeholders to integrate and proliferate the validated interventions into policy, training and operational systems. As the subject matter expert for performance psychology with the service, you are expected to keep abreast with the developments that are relevant to the Navy. You are the psychological health consultant to the Division/Formation/Command you are affiliated to. At the operational level, you are responsible to develop the overall psychological health strategy and workplan for your affiliated Division/Formation/Command to meet the psychological health objectives. To this end, you need to engage commanders/supervisors at various levels to understand their needs and organisational context. This will lead you to plan out well-being initiatives such as Division/Formation/Command and unit well-being days, organise activities/talks/visits, and monitor well-being status, present findings at key forums and work with commanders/supervisors to develop intervention when necessary. At the tactical level, you will need to support service personnel one-to-one (e.g. conduct interview, provide counselling, train them on life skill etc.), and partner commanders/supervisors to resolve workplace adjustment issue and advise them on deployment option and management plan. You will also be expected to train commanders/supervisors on managing psychological health challenges at the workplace. Your challenges lie in reducing stigma and shaping a psychologically healthy culture in the Division/Formation/Command, encouraging service personnel to step forward when they are in distress, and keeping abreast on the latest developments in the field.

You are responsible for establishing the professional guidelines and standards for the Defence Psychology Community (DPC), including Military Medicine Institute (MMI), SAFTI-MI's Centre of Leadership Development (CLD) and RSAF's Aviation Psychology Branch (APB), in psychological assessment to support MINDEF and the SAF's mission. You develop and customise psychological assessment techniques, tools and systems for MINDEF and the SAF in order to address the unique and complex defence context. You will be the point-of-contact to external network of experts, establishing strong partnerships and collaborations to access current thinking, identify emerging trends and maintain the systems of psychological assessment in MINDEF and the SAF to support DPC as well as MINDEF and the SAF's mission. You are the subject matter expert for all psychology-related matters in the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS). On this, you provide a spectrum of organisational and operational psychological support to the DIS during peacetime and operations. You design and implement systems to ensure job-fit of DIS personnel, monitor the organisational effectiveness of the DIS and develop appropriate intervention strategies, and remove barriers and promote enablers for DIS personnel to meet work demands. You also lead and train a group of Defence Psychologists in supporting the DIS in psychology-related matters. Your challenge lies in needing to possess the subject matter expertise which is acquired through formal academic training in psychology and practising the discipline across a comprehensive spectrum within the defence context. You lead a team to manage and oversee the development of Psychological Defence capabilities and provide comprehensive psychology support along a peace to war continuum. On this, you plan and employ qualitative and quantitative methods to deliver an evidence-based approach for diagnosing issues and providing professional advice, expertise, and specialist skills to enhance individual, team, and unit psychological readiness as well as organisational effectiveness.
