Fleet
Fleet is the operational task force responsible for protecting our sea lines of communications (SLOCs). In addition, the Fleet conducts a wide range of missions, from operations to defend Singapore against external threats; to peace support, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
Within the Fleet, the First Flotilla, Third Flotilla, Seventh Flotilla and Eighth Flotilla are in charge of the training and readiness of the naval capabilities required for these missions. The Fleet is also supported by the Republic of Singapore Air Force's 121 Squadron and 123 Squadron for maritime surveillance operations and anti-submarine warfare missions.
Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) / Maritime Security (MARSEC) Command
The Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) / Maritime Security (MARSEC) Command keeps a watchful eye on Singapore's waters around the clock.
The MSTF's Sea Security Group and Force Protection Group work with other Singapore Armed Forces units and national agencies, as part of the Whole-of-Government maritime security system, to conduct maritime security operations and protect our naval bases and key maritime-facing installations. In addition, the MSTF's Information Fusion Centre also works closely with regional and international partners to foster cooperation and information-sharing for maritime security in the region.
At the MARSEC Command, the Second Flotilla, Sixth Flotilla, Ninth Flotilla, and Maritime Security and Response Flotilla are responsible to build and develop capabilities and assets for maritime security operations.
Maritime Training and Doctrine Command (MTDC)
A modern naval force needs skilled personnel at the helm. As the training and doctrine development arm of the RSN, the Maritime Training and Doctrine Command (MTDC) nurtures competent, confident and committed naval professionals who maintain high readiness levels for operational task forces and task groups of the RSN.
Within the MTDC, the Naval Military Experts Institute focuses on training of our naval military experts and engineers, while the Maritime Warfare and Doctrine Institute watches over the warfare and navigation training for the RSN, and the management of RSN tactical doctrines.
Naval Engineering and Logistics Command (NELCOM)
Engineering and logistic readiness are the key to the success of naval operations. The Naval Engineering and Logistics Command (NELCOM) keeps the RSN's fleet of ships fighting fit through comprehensive planning and timely maintenance of naval platforms and systems, and ensures our navy's capabilities and assets are always ready, and equipped with the supplies and material they need.
Apart from in-house expertise, the NELCOM taps on the capabilities of the larger defence ecosystem, such as the Singapore Technologies Engineering Group and agencies such as the Defence Science and Technology Agency.
Naval Diving Unit (NDU)
The highly specialised Naval Diving Unit (NDU) performs all maritime special operations including maritime explosive ordnance disposal, underwater threat clearance and ship-boarding operations.
The NDU consists of the Special Warfare Group, Special Boat Group, Clearance Diving Group, Underwater Demolition Group, 180 Squadron, and Frogman School. It also houses the Naval Hyperbaric Medical Centre to handle the specific medical needs of naval divers.
Medical Flotilla (MEDFLOT)
The Medical Flotilla provides medical support for RSN operations. This includes acting as medical specialists to RSN formations, and leading medical operations. It is also responsible for the medical competency of both operational medical teams and RSN personnel, on ships and ashore.
The Base Medical Squadron is responsible for medical support capabilities ashore, and oversees the operations of Changi Naval Medical Centre Team, Tuas Naval Medical Centre Team, Sembawang Medical Centre Team, Naval Base Medical Teams, and the Naval Base Mental Health Team.
The Shipboard Medical Squadron is responsible for building and providing shipboard medical support capabilities, and oversees operations of Shipboard Medical Teams and Ambulance Craft Medical Teams.
The Shipboard Surgical Squadron is responsible for building and providing surgical medical support capabilities on board ships. It oversees operations of Shipboard Surgical Teams, Naval Ship Hospitals, and Shipboard Surgical Sections.
The Underwater Medical Squadron is responsible for underwater medical support capabilities, and oversees operations of Underwater Medical Response Teams.
