Do's and Don'ts for Deferment Application

When making an application, please note  the following:

  1. Do Discuss with Your Immediate Commander

You are encouraged to discuss your deferment application with your immediate commander before submitting your application to your CO or equivalent for approval

  2. Do Update Your Personal Contact Details

You must update your contact details (i.e. contact number and/or e-mail address) via Update My Profile on the NS Portal. This will allow the Human Resource Shared Services Centre - National Servicemen Services Centre (HRSSC-NSSC) to follow-up with and/or notify you on the outcome of your application. Failing to do so may delay the application process

  3. Do Timely Apply for Deferment

You must report for your In-Camp Training (ICT) if you were unable to apply for deferment on time. If you still wish to pursue your deferment request, please bring along your supporting documents and discuss this with your immediate commander during your Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) activity

  4. Do Timely Submit the Supporting Documents

The relevant supporting documents must be attached and submitted together with your application in a timely manner. If not, the application will be considered as an incomplete submission and not processed. You are then required to submit a new application with the required supporting documents

  5. Do Note the Transaction ID and Track the Application Status

You will receive a deferment Transaction ID after your application that should be used for future correspondences. You can also view your application status on the eService’s Summary page

  6. Do note on the difference between Amendments and Cancellations

No amendments are allowed once your application is submitted and being processed. If you need to amend your application, you have to cancel the existing one and submit a new application

  7. Do Read Your Outcome Letter

Please read your application outcome letter via Manage Call-Ups & Manning on the NS Portal. The letter will document the outcome of and required action for your deferment application
