Supporting Documents


You shall submit the recommended documents in (but not limited to) the table below to support your deferment application.

  • Letter from your employer/company requesting for your deferment
  • If you are self-employed: Your ACRA registration, and any other relevant documents, e.g. rental lease
  • Letter from your employer/company requesting your deferment, stating the period of the work commitments
  • Work Permit/Visa (if any)
  • If you are a Singapore Permanent Resident: a copy of your passport
  • Any other relevant documents

Letter/Agreement/Contract from your employer which confirms the commencement date of your new employment.

The supporting document must have:

  1. Both your and your employer’s signatures
  2. The official company letterhead or logo appended

Examples include your Letter of Appointment, employment contract, Letter of Acceptance or company e-mail certifying your new employment

  • Retrenchment letter from your last employer/company (if any)
  • CPF Statement (if any)
  • Job interview details (if any)
  • Copy of the ACRA BizFile (for local businesses)
  • Copy of your business registration documents (for overseas businesses)
  • Work Permit/Visa (for overseas businesses, if any)
  • Hawker license (if any)
  • Letter from your employer/company stating the name of the sponsored training
  • School/Institution’s course schedule
  • Any other relevant documents
  • Letter from the school/institution certifying your student status and course of study
  • School/Institution’s exam timetable (if any)
  • School/Institution’s course timetable or academic schedule
  • Letter from the school/Institution confirming your student status, and the date and time of your examination
  • School/Institution’s exam timetable
  • Letter from the school/institution supporting your industrial attachment or internship
  • Letter of Acceptance from the attachment company/institution (local/overseas)
  • Your Marriage Certificate from the Registry of Marriages (ROM) or confirmation of your ROM booking, with payment receipt
  • The wedding reception receipts
  • The receipts for your honeymoon (if any)
  • Memo from your wife’s gynaecologist stating the estimated delivery date
  • Any other relevant medical documents

Letter from your employer/company and your colleague’s SAF100 (if any)

  • A medical memo from your next-of-kin’s or family member’s hospital or clinic doctor
  • Death certificate for your next-of-kin

Your foreign passport, Permanent Resident visa, and Work Permit (if any)

  • Letter from the school/institution/company/employer
  • Your spouse’s study visa or work permit, flight itinerary booking (if any)

1Medical certificate (MC) issued by an SAF Medical Officer (MO) or a private medical practitioner 

1If your health conditions permits, you can:

  1. Make a self-initiated medical appointment via Manage Medical (eHealth) on the NS Portal for an SAF MO to endorse your MC issued by the private medical practitioner, or 
  2. Report on the first day of your In-Camp Training (ICT) to have your MC endorsed by your unit MO 

You may be required to continue with your ICT after your medical leave unless you have been granted deferment or your ICT has ended. Please approach your immediate commander or your NS unit administrator for advice and details.
