Appeals

If your deferment application is rejected, your unit Commanding Officer (CO) may work out alternative arrangements with you to manage your commitments. These could be through time-off, no-pay leave, etc. These arrangements may be indicated in your deferment outcome letter.

You can make an appeal by submitting a new deferment application. Before that, you shall read and understand the reasons for rejection outlined in your deferment outcome letter. You may choose to follow up with additional documentary proof to explain your case. It is also recommended that you discuss your situation with your immediate commander prior appeal.

You should not make an appeal under the following conditions:

  • You did not view the deferment outcome letter via Manage Call-Ups & Manning on the NS Portal
  • Your Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) activity begins in 2 days or less. You are strongly advised to report to and seek deferment from your CO during the ORNS activity
  • Your ORNS activity has been cancelled or when a previous deferment application of the same ORNS activity is still being processed
