Keeping Friendships Warm with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force

28 Aug 22

On 27 Aug 2022, the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Formidable-class frigate RSS Intrepid met with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's (JMSDF) Asagiri-class destroyer JS Yamagiri for a passage exercise (PASSEX) in the waters off Japan.

PASSEX planning with personnel from JS Yamagiri.

Both ships conducted manoeuvring exercise serials during the PASSEX. These exercises are an opportunity for us to build mutual understanding.

Prior to the PASSEX, RSS Intrepid had called into Yokosuka Naval Base from 23 to 27 Aug. The port call and PASSEX are part of regular interactions that underscore the warm and friendly relations between Singapore and Japan.

RSS Intrepid was welcomed by the crew of JS Yamagiri when they arrived at Yokosuka Naval Base. Also present were representatives from the Singapore Embassy in Japan.

As part of the port call, Commanding Officer RSS Intrepid LTC Jamin Lau (right) called on Commandant Yokosuka District VADM Yoshihisa Inui (left).

Wishing our friends on board JS Yamagiri "Fair Winds & Following Seas" as we concluded the PASSEX!
