There's a whole host of activities and games for everyone in the family at the ROH21.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Open House is making its much-anticipated return this December!
It will be held virtually from 3 to 19 Dec 2021, because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, in a similar modality to the Army55 exhibition last year.
Said Colonel Amos Yeo, Chairman of the Organising Committee and Commander Air Power Generation Command: "The RSAF Open House has always been a means for us to engage the public and thank them for their continuous support."
The 40-year-old reassured all that RSAF Open House 2021 (ROH21) will be no less spectacular than those of previous years, with the team having spent a total of six months planning and putting it together.
He said: The online format also enables the RSAF to reach out to… (those) who might otherwise not have attended the physical Open House."
Here are the five things you must try at ROH21:
1. Play Games and Earn Stars
There are four interactive online games available on the ROH21 website:
(R)EMEMBER Our Assets: A memory game on the RSAF's assets.
(S)EEK Knowledge: A trivia quiz game testing your knowledge about the RSAF.
(A)TTACK From The Skies: Players choose from five different fighter jets in an aerial shooter game to defend against a host of threats.
(F)ORTIFY Our Bases: A tower defence strategy game where players are required to build the base's defence systems to tackle incoming threats from the air, land and sea.
By participating in the online games, you will earn "stars" which can be used to redeem virtual skins like customisable uniforms, backdrops and achievement medals for your avatar.
2. Visit the Virtual Exhibition Hall
Learn more about the RSAF's history, development and capabilities through informative panels and engaging videos in the virtual exhibition hall. Be sure to check out the panel on RSAF Detachments to find out where the RSAF trains around the world!
3. Interact with RSAF assets in 3D
This year, you can get up close with 3D static displays of more than 25 RSAF aircraft and Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) systems from wherever you are. There will be no need to fight crowds or brave sunny or stormy weathers!
Be sure to check out the RSAF's latest additions - the H225M Medium-Lift Helicopter and the CH-47F Heavy-Lift Helicopter in the virtual hangar!
4. Experience the Open House through livestreams
Disappointed that you won't get to enjoy the usual action at physical RSAF Open Houses? Well, you won't have to!
There will be various livestreams to catch during the opening weekend on 3 to 5 Dec 2021. These include the inaugural appearance of the Singapore Youth Flying Club's Virtual Black Knights performing a virtual aerial aerobatics routine on 5 Dec at 1200hrs.
Military Expert 1 (ME1) K Pragadeeswaran, an Air Force Engineer who will be appearing in the livestream, is a first-time participant at the RSAF Open House. He will be involved in a rehearsal that will see the RSAF's F-15SG scrambling in response to the detection of a potential air threat.
Despite the virtual modality of the Open House this year, the 27-year-old remains just as excited and hopes that fellow Singaporeans will be too.
He said: "I learnt how to position myself for the camera angles so that the audience can have a better view of the scramble exercise. We went through a lot of practice to perfect our positions."
Visitors can also look forward to exclusive behind-the-scenes videos of RSAF training told through the guest hosts such as Gurmit Singh, Rai Kannu, Annette Lee and Jyotsnaa Jayashanker.
5. Complete Challenges and Win Prizes
No RSAF Open House is ever complete without prizes. And what better way to stand a chance to win attractive prizes at ROH21 than through participating in a series of virtual challenges?
Different sets of Creative Challenges will be released periodically via the "Let's Post" section, where visitors can submit photographs or videos of themselves participating in various activities.
Selected photographs and videos will also be shortlisted for a voting contest on the website.
The prizes include RSAF memorabilia like ROH21 CPT Ted bears, reusable tote bags and patches.
