Mr Ong Li Koon

Mr Ong Li Koon, Director Naval Systems from DSTA, has played an instrumental role in building up Singapore's strategic submarine capabilities.
From the acquisition of Singapore's first Challenger-class submarines to the subsequent Archer-class submarines, Mr Ong has been involved in every submarine programme for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) since joining DSTA in 2001. He spearheaded the development of the latest Invincible-class submarines that are designed and built specifically to meet the RSN's operational requirements, and pushed boundaries in their front-end design and the integration of their combat and platform systems. His establishment of a new safety framework for submarine design, construction and testing advanced safety standards for the submarine engineering community. Mr Ong also contributed to the build-up of the RSN's submarine competencies through technology transfer programmes, training attachments and technical courses.
A two-time recipient of the DTP Team (Engineering) Award, Mr Ong's work has enhanced the RSN's ability to protect Singapore's waters and safeguard access to sea lines of communication. In recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions, Mr Ong is awarded the DTP 2019 Individual (Engineering) Award.
