Winning Schools Bring Meaning to Total Defence Through N.E.Mation!

The eighth season of the annual N.E.mation! competition drew to a close this evening, with The 4 of Us II from Tanglin Secondary School garnering top honours as the champion team this year. Second Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing, who graced the event as the Guest of Honour, handed out prizes to the champion team, as well as to first runner-ups Momento Mori from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School and second runner ups Delta-Gaytors, also from CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School at the awards ceremony held at the National Museum of Singapore. Mr Chan also viewed all the animation clips from the 10 finalists, as well as toured the exhibition of stories of everyday Singaporeans who have contributed to Total Defence currently showing at the museum.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Mr Chan shared stories of a student who made personal sacrifices to complete the animation videos for the competition, and of a team who chipped to help a team member with unfortunate family circumstances so that she could continue on in the project. He said, "The stories behind your stories say much more about your commitment to this concept called Total Defence for our country, than any other action that you have done. Your own stories behind the stories are the best testimony of the entire concept of Total Defence in action." He added, "May we all get inspired by your examples and go forth to each play our part for the country, so that we will have many more years of peace to come because you have played a part."A total of 552 teams joined the competition, which started in July 2013. The top 10 teams were shortlisted based on their proposed story ideas to develop and produce the  animation clips. These top 10 teams also took part in the first ever public rally - N.E.mation! Downtown Picnic -- held at the National Library building on 18 January 2014, where the students pitched their animation clips to the public to raise awareness of N.E.mation! and garner votes for their respective clips.  The champion team was awarded a fully-sponsored trip to renowned animation studios in the United States worth more than $20,000.
