The Singapore Armed Forces Marks 60 Years of Service with Launch of Commemorative Exhibition Showcase

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) commemorates her 60th anniversary in 2025, marking six decades of commitment and dedication to safeguarding Singapore’s sovereignty and security.

Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad officiated the launch of the Singapore Armed Forces’ 60th Anniversary (SAF60) Commemorative Exhibition Showcase at the Singapore Discovery Centre earlier today, alongside Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng and Chief Executive Officer of Defence Collective Singapore, Mr Joseph Tan. Also present at the event were SAF Service Chiefs, Senior Officials, as well as past and present personnel from MINDEF and the SAF.

The theme for the exhibition is "Defending Our Home, Securing Our Future". The theme encapsulates the SAF's enduring mission and commitment to safeguard Singapore’s sovereignty, security and future. The exhibition traces the SAF’s transformation journey from its humble beginnings to a modern, technologically advanced fighting force, its roles in protecting Singapore’s sovereignty, and contributions to the nation’s peace and progress over the past six decades. A key feature of the exhibition is a collection of human-interest stories and experiences of servicemen and women who have contributed to Singapore’s defence. The exhibition also provides insights into ongoing efforts to keep the SAF relevant and effective, to ably protect and keep Singapore as a sovereign and independent nation amidst an increasingly complex security landscape.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Zaqy emphasised the significance of the exhibition in commemorating this milestone. "This is a powerful opportunity to bring the stories behind the SAF’s success closer to every Singaporean, highlighting how commitment, innovation and public support have built the strong defence that we rely on today."

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Albel Singh, a pioneer in the SAF who attended the launch said, “The exhibition allows me to gain a deeper appreciation of the changes and improvements in the SAF since the early days, I am confident that the SAF will continue to be capable of safeguarding our nation today and into the future.”

SAF60 marks a significant milestone in Singapore’s defence history which is made possible by the commitment, dedication and sacrifices of all past and present SAF service personnel and the support of Singaporeans. Following the launch, the exhibition will be on display at various public locations, including PA Integrated Community Hubs and SAFRA clubhouses.
