Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosted a ceremony for participating organisations, sponsors and key appointment holders of the National Day Parade (NDP) 2021 organising committee, in recognition of their support and contributions towards making this year's NDP a safe and successful event despite the challenges and disruptions.

Speaking on the significance of holding NDP annually, whether in good times or bad times, Dr Ng said, "This tradition of celebrating National Day, whether at home or abroad, with citizens as well as foreign friends runs deep and for many good reasons, not least for the citizens of that country to come together as one, to show their confidence in themselves and their heritage. It is the country's expression on their national day, its place in history and the World today." Dr Ng added, "The NDP was our collective affirmation that no matter how hard the going, Singapore will overcome and thrive. As the song goes, "We did it before, and we will do it again". Together, Singaporeans can withstand adversity to emerge stronger...NDP 2021 became a reality by your personal effort and is the greatest tribute, I can think of, to all who strive daily to keep Singapore going, to keep the flame that is the Singapore Story burning bright, even against strong headwinds. The road ahead is uncertain. But we rest assured that if each of us embodies the Singapore Spirit, our future remains secure and bright."

This year's NDP theme, "Together, Our Singapore Spirit", calls on Singaporeans to reinvigorate the Singapore Spirit, and to draw courage and resilience from our 'can-do' spirit amid challenging circumstances. During the event, Dr Ng presented certificates of appreciation to 23 Gold award recipients and 53 Principal Partners to thank them for their hard work and dedication.

At a separate session later this evening, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General (LG) Melvyn Ong will be presenting certificates of appreciation to 44 Major Partners and 191 Co-Partners of NDP 2021. LG Ong will also present the Silver awards to 163 recipients at another appreciation event next week.
