Fact Sheet: Amendment to the Singapore-Sweden Defence Technology Memorandum of Understanding

The Ministry of Defence of Singapore and the Ministry of Defence of Sweden have signed the Amendment to the Singapore-Sweden Defence Technology (DT) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The Amendment was signed by Singapore Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) Mr Melvyn Ong, and Sweden State Secretary for Defence Mr Peter Sandwall on 15 November 2024.

The Amendment expands our existing Singapore-Sweden DT MOU to include collaboration in defence innovation as a new area of partnership. This entails facilitating new collaborations with the start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and universities of both countries to harness dual-use critical and emerging technologies of mutual interests to augment our defence capabilities.

The signing of the Amendment reaffirms the friendly and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and Sweden, especially in the areas of naval operations and defence technology. The bilateral defence technology collaboration has also directly contributed to Singapore’s capabilities in areas such as protective infrastructure, submarines, and surface vessels. Our armed forces also interact through a wide range of professional exchanges, visits, exercises and cross-attendance of courses.
