Newly Appointed GPC-DFA Visits the Multi-Mission Range Complex

Members of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs (GPC-DFA) and its Resource Panel visited the Multi-Mission Range Complex (MMRC) this morning. The visit hosted by Senior Minister of State for Defence, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, and Commander 9th Singapore Division and Chief Infantry Officer, Colonel Ng Ying Thong, is the first visit to MINDEF/SAF since the new GPC-DFA members were appointed in November 2015.

During the visit, members were briefed on the capabilities of the MMRC and how the three-storey indoor firing range provides realistic scenario-based training and leverages advanced technology to enhance soldier shooting competencies safely and effectively. As part of the visit, members toured the Urban Operations Range and Multi-Tier Range, and observed how the MMRC helps soldiers hone their marksmanship skills more efficiently by providing different environmental conditions and operational scenarios in a single facility. GPC-DFA members also fired the Singapore Assault Rifle 21 at the 50 metres Video Targetry System (VTS) Range.

Sharing his thoughts at the end of the visit, Chairman GPC-DFA, Mr Vikram Nair, commended how the MMRC has improved marksmanship training for our soldiers. He said, "A facility like the MMRC is the first of its kind, and a good example of how the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) uses innovation and technology to train its soldiers in a safe and realistic environment, and build an operationally ready armed forces capable of defending Singapore."
