The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Commandos and the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) Special Forces Command (KOPASSUS) have successfully concluded the annual bilateral exercise, Exercise Chandrapura, at Batujajar, Bandung in Indonesia. Held from 11 to 19 July 2017, the exercise focused on cross-training for urban operations, which included Close Quarter Battle (CQB) live-firing, fast-roping and rappelling. There were a total of 70 SAF Commandos from 1st Commando Battalion and 70 TNI KOPASSUS from 11th Battalion, TNI KOPASSUS Group 1 who took part in the exercise.

Exercise Chandrapura concluded with a symbolic exchange of airborne wings during the closing ceremony, which was co-officiated by Commanding Officer of 1st Commando Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ng Kiang Chuan and Commanding Officer of 11th Battalion, TNI KOPASSUS Group 1, Major Farid Yudho.

First conducted in 1994, this exercise is the 24th in the series and underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Indonesia. This year also marks 50 years of bilateral relations between both countries. Besides bilateral exercises, the Singapore and Indonesian armies engage in a wide range of activities such as visits, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of courses. These regular interactions enhance the interoperability and foster mutual understanding between the two armies.
