Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad is on a two-day working visit to Vietnam from 19 to 20 December 2024. Mr Zaqy attended the 2nd Vietnam International Defence Expo (VIDEX) 2024 in Hanoi on 19 December 2024. Held biennially, VIDEX brings together top international defence and security manufacturers, suppliers and agencies through exhibit showcases and technical seminars.

Mr Zaqy met Vietnam Minister of National Defence General (GEN) Phan Van Giang on the sidelines of VIDEX. They reaffirmed the warm defence relations between Singapore and Vietnam. GEN Giang also expressed appreciation for the Singapore Armed Forces’ provision of humanitarian assistance to Vietnam following Typhoon Yagi.

As part of his visit, Mr Zaqy will attend the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th anniversary of the All-People National Defence Festival tomorrow. Mr Zaqy will also visit the Vietnam National Committee for Incident, Disaster Response, Search and Rescue (VINASARCOM) in the afternoon.

Mr Zaqy’s visit underscores the warm and friendly defence relations between Singapore and Vietnam. Both defence establishments interact regularly through high-level visits, bilateral dialogues, and professional exchanges. These mutually beneficial interactions have enhanced the professional ties between both countries.
