This citation is given in recognition of RSS Unity, RSS Sovereignty and RSS Justice's invaluable contributions and dedicated service to the RSN and Singapore.
RSS Unity, RSS Sovereignty and RSS Justice were commissioned on 7th February 1998. Together with their sister Patrol Vessels, these three ships were entrusted with the task of protecting our territorial waters and safeguarding our Sea Lines of Communication, and they served with distinction for two decades.
Beyond contributing to 24/7 maritime security operations, these three ships flew the RSN flag high in a number of important bilateral and multilateral exercises.
RSS Unity participated in Ex SINGSIAM and Ex PELICAN, which helped to strengthen the RSN's ties with the Royal Thai Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy respectively. During her years of service, she was also designated the Naval Technology Evaluation Ship and pioneered several developments and advances in combat systems which contributed towards building the 3rd Generation RSN.
RSS Sovereignty's participation in Ex MALAPURA and the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) enhanced the RSN's ties and interoperability with the Royal Malaysian Navy.
RSS Justice distinguished herself in multilateral exercises such as the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) Ex BERSAMA LIMA, the 5th Western Pacific Naval Symposium Multilateral Sea Exercise and the International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX) Asia. She also won the 182 Squadron Best Ship award for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011, earning her the RSN's first Golden E award.
Throughout their operational service, these three ships were an integral part of the RSN's 24/7 High Readiness Core and truly lived up to 182 Squadron's motto of being "Sharp and Vigilant". The success of these three Patrol Vessels would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication, professionalism, tenacity and sacrifices of many generations of officers and crew who served on board.
The RSN salutes RSS Unity, RSS Sovereignty and RSS Justice for their two decades of faithful service. Their qualities, values and steadfast contributions shall continue to inspire the men and women of the RSN for generations to come.
