Minister for Defence Reaffirms Strong Defence Ties with Counterparts at 20th Shangri-La Dialogue

 

 

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met his counterparts on the sidelines of the 20th Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) today, including the Defence Ministers from Germany and United Kingdom (UK).

Germany Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius also called on Dr Ng at the Shangri-La Hotel this afternoon. During the meeting, both Ministers reaffirmed the strong and substantive bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Germany, and exchanged views on geopolitical and security developments. Dr Ng expressed appreciation for the Federal Ministry of Defence's support for the SAF's training since 2009. Prior to the meeting, Minister Pistorius visited the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) and Changi Regional HADR Coordination Centre (RHCC).

Dr Ng also met the UK Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace. Both Ministers reaffirmed the warm and longstanding ties between Singapore and the UK at the bilateral level as well as under the ambit of the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA). Both Ministers discussed ways to expand cooperation in across a broad range of areas and exchanged views on the security developments and the importance of regional peace and stability.

In addition, Dr Ng met Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Dr Kao Kim Hourn, Brunei Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof, New Zealand Minister of Defence Andrew Little, Qatar Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, Sweden Minister for Defence Dr Pål Jonson, and Ukraine Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov.
