Chief of Defence of Germany Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

The Chief of Defence of Germany, General (GEN) Carsten Breuer called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) today. During the call, Dr Ng and GEN Breuer reaffirmed the strong and substantive defence relations between Singapore and Germany, and exchanged views on deepening bilateral defence cooperation in areas such as military training and collaboration in non-conventional security domains. They also discussed Germany’s engagement of the Asia-Pacific region and exchanged views on ways to work together to promote and support the rules-based international order.

GEN Breuer, who is in Singapore for an introductory visit from 1 to 4 August 2024, also called on Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral (VADM) Aaron Beng, after inspecting the Guard of Honour at MINDEF earlier this morning. Thereafter, he visited Maju Camp, where he received a brief on the SAF’s transformation and the National Service system, and also visited the Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps. As part of his visit, GEN Breuer will also visit the Armour Formation at Sungei Gedong Camp, where he will view and be briefed on the suite of Hunter platforms and Armour Simulation Systems.

Singapore and Germany cooperate and interact frequently through high-level visits and dialogues, military-to-military exchanges, cross-attendance of professional courses, as well as technology collaboration. These interactions have reinforced the professional ties between the two defence establishments, underpinned by the enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in 2018.
