THE RSAF LIFE
WHAT TYPE OF WORK WILL I BE DOING IN THE RSAF?
There is a wide range of job opportunities in the RSAF. Depending on your interest and qualifications, you may join us as a Combat Officer, Warrant Officer or Military Expert.
During your career in the RSAF, you will be able to take up different positions; from being a professional in your field of work, to becoming an instructor, or even a policy maker in HQ RSAF.
WHAT SKILLS WILL I GAIN IN THE RSAF?
Regardless of the vocation you join, you will have the opportunity to take on Command, Staff and Instructional positions in the RSAF during your career. You will gain important life skills such as leadership, teamwork and discipline. In addition, depending on your vocation, you will pick up deep professional and technical skills.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND sponsorships
WHAT ARE THE SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS AVAILABLE?
Depending on your qualifications and choice of career scheme, we have a wide range of scholarships and awards to suit the progression of your career.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP?
You can apply for a scholarship via the MINDEF Scholarship Centre.
CAN I APPLY FOR THE SAF SCHOLARSHIP?
Yes, as long as you meet the academic requirements. For The SAF Scholarship, you must first be accepted by PSC. For both scholarships, you are also required to achieve good military performance.
WHEN DO I APPLY FOR THE SPONSORSHIPS/AWARDS?
Applications can be made according to the respective sponsorship window. Applicants will need to have secured a place in an ITE, polytechnic or university. You are strongly encouraged to apply early to enjoy the full value of the sponsorship.
HOW LONG IS THE BOND PERIOD FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS/AWARDS?
The bond period for The SAF Scholarship is 6 years upon graduation.

CAN I PURSUE MY OWN STUDIES IF I JOIN THE RSAF (WITHOUT ANY SPONSORSHIP/AWARD)?
Yes, you may pursue further education at your expense. However, it is not advisable to do so at the early stages of your career, as this might result in missing several important milestones in your training due to the disruption.
IF I FAIL THE TRAINING/COURSE, DO I NEED TO BEAR THE COST OF MY SCHOLARSHIP/AWARD?
If it is a genuine failure, you are not required to bear the costs. However, if it is due to other reasons such as self-suspension or if there is misconduct, you will be liable for bearing any salary and/or pay liquidated damages for the training cost incurred.
WOMEN IN THE FORCE
WHAT ARE THE ROLES AVAILABLE TO ME AS A WOMAN?
All vocations in the RSAF are open to women. The selection is based on qualifications, physical fitness, as well as certain vocation-specific prerequisites. To find out more about each role, please visit our Vocations section.
HOW FIT DO I HAVE TO BE TO JOIN THE AIR FORCE?
You will need to pass your NAPFA, and also a medical screening in order to join. Subsequently, you are expected to clear the standard IPPT annually, depending on your age and medical Physical Employment Status (PES).
WILL LIFE IN THE RSAF BE PHYSICALLY STRENUOUS?
Keeping fit and healthy is a vital requirement for all active personnel. However, depending on the nature of your role in the RSAF, the daily physical demands may vary.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS THAT I HAVE TO FULFIL?

HOW DOES THE AIR FORCE SUPPORT FAMILIES IF I'M PLANNING TO START ONE?
The RSAF has provisions for benefits such as maternity/paternity, childcare and child sick leave that one can apply for.
CAN I WEAR MAKE-UP?
Yes. You will be allowed to wear basic facial make-up, as well as lipstick and nail polish of a natural colour. However, flamboyant make-up styles and bold colours are not permitted, as they are inappropriate in a military environment.
WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES FOR HAIRSTYLES?
Servicewomen are to style their hair neatly, such that it does not interfere with the proper wearing of the headdress. The length of the hair should not go beyond the lower collar fold, and personnel with hair longer than that are required to tie it up in a braid, bun or ponytail.
Hair tints or accessories should be inconspicuous, and of a natural colour.
