Singapore To Host 21st Shangri-La Dialogue

Singapore will host the 21st Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) from 31 May to 2 June 2024. This year's edition, organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), will see 45 countries in attendance, with 49 Ministerial-level delegates and more than 40 senior defence officials including Chiefs of Defence Forces, as well as prominent academics. Among the delegates are United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and China Minister of National Defense Admiral Dong Jun. Philippines President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. will deliver this year's Keynote Address on 31 May 2024, while Indonesia President-Elect and Minister for Defence Prabowo Subianto will deliver a Special Address on 1 June 2024. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will also host delegates to a dinner at the National Gallery on 1 June 2024.

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen will speak at the seventh plenary session on 2 June 2024 on the topic "Re-Imagining Solutions for Regional Stability". As a regular feature of the SLD, Dr Ng will host visiting Ministers to Roundtable discussions on 1 and 2 June 2024 and the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) Defence Ministers to breakfast. Dr Ng will also host the 12th FPDA Defence Ministers' Meeting, and conduct bilateral meetings with Ministers and senior officials from various countries on the sideline of the SLD.

The SLD was established in 2002, and is the premier defence and security conference in the Asia-Pacific region. Over the years, the SLD has provided a valuable, open and neutral platform for the exchange of perspectives on defence and security issues and initiatives.
