The ASEAN Centre of Military Medicine (ACMM) organised its first Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) Exchange Training from 17 - 21st June 2019, in Phetchaburi Province, Thailand. A team comprised of CPT(DR) Ng Peng, ME3 Mazlan, ME2 Lai Qin Feng, ME1 Ong Xin Miao and ME1 Lim Meng Jac represented SAFMC at this exchange training. The training saw the participation of the 10 ASEAN Member Nations. The exchange training involved an introduction to Humanitarian Aid Disaster Relief (HADR) deployments, and sharing of deployment experiences and concepts by participating members. This was followed by a combined planning and field training exercise for simulation of HADR deployment and mass casualty scenarios. At the end of the exercise, discussions and reflections were conducted for the review of the MERT Handbook drafted by Thailand. This experience allowed the team to understand the training and capabilities of other nations, and most importantly to establish new friendships with participants.
