Mission
The mission of Ministry of Defence and the Singapore Armed Forces is to enhance Singapore's peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and should these fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor.
History
Singapore’s defence history began in 1854 with the formation of the Singapore Volunteer Rifle Corps. Following independence in 1965, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) was established, and National Service was introduced in 1967. Since then, the SAF has evolved into a modern, networked force.
